Gavin Lake is a young filmmaker, who moved to Omaha in 2012, after living in Emporia, Kansas for his whole life. Little did he know that moving to Nebraska would change his life and career aspirations.
In late 2015 Gavin saw the Quentin Tarantino movie Django: Unchained. This was the beginning of a deepened interest in film. Later, in January of 2016, Gavin saw the latest Tarantino movie The Hateful Eight. Gavin fell in love with film, and attended the 2016 Omaha Film Festival, where he spent the week looking at movies of all kind.
There, at a showing of the movie Black Luck, Gavin accidently sat in the VIP section, where he met Lonnie Senstock and Chuck Mittan. Lonnie made a point of introducing Gavin, a writer to Lew Hunter, a legend in Nebraska film. Gavin found out later that Lonnie knew Matt Caswell, a family friend, and became connected with him. Caswell was involved in The Digg Site, and informed him of the Summer Film Camp. Gavin was able to meet the members of The Digg Site through this class, along with like minded young individuals. He attended the White Light City Film Festival and saw his classmates’ films be screened.
Gavin is an aspiring screenwriter and director. He is working on making a few short films, with other young filmmakers like himself. He cites Quentin Tarantino, Stanley Kubrick, and Alfred Hitchcock as his main influences. He lives in Omaha with his parents, Zach and Heather, and his three siblings, Brenna, Hattie, and Logan.
